Sunday November 12th at 7pm (St. Anne’s Church in Downtown Brooklyn) Boxcutter Collective and Ali Dineen will combine sets to present: an excerpt from The Loneliness of Either, Or: A Requiem for Joan of Arc
Boxcutter Collective is always excited to debut what we are working on at the Folk Fest! This Sunday we will perform a new excerpt of a pageant which will be performed in full at Flushing Town Hall on December 16th.
Part concert and part mass, we will use song and pageantry to explore the story of Joan of Arc. The Loneliness of Either, Or: A Requiem for Joan of Arc examines the lesser known nuances of Joan’s story, delving into her relationship to gender, prophecy, and faith. Drawing upon the works of scholars such as Sylvia Federici and Leslie Feinberg, as well as the songwriter’s own history, this Requiem looks to understand where we turn when our heroes, myths and gods betray us, and what we can learn from the the in-between places in our lives.
