On Saturday February 22nd at The Fabulous Jalopy Theater and School of Music (315 Columbia Street Brooklyn) Boxcutter Collective will present a Puppet Cabaret! Doors at 7:30 SHOW at 8pm. We think you won’t want to miss this breathtaking line-up including: Ray The Bimbo Clown, Schweda, Marlee Miller, Emmanuel Elpenord, Great Small Works and Boxcutter Collective!
Marlee Miller:
“Black Femme Dreamin” a Crankie by Marlee Alcina Miller. “Black Femme Dreamin” inspired by an exploration of the world of dreams and conversations with our inner child. This crankie illustrates an excerpt from a longer essay written by Marlee. There is much to be discovered in our waking-world when we utilize the lessons we learn from the visions we encounter in sleep.
Great Small Works: “Living Newspaper, Episode Two: Sidewalk Ballet” Created and performed by John Bell and Trudi Cohen of Great Small Works. A paper theater play inspired by the conflict in mid-1960s NYC between developer Robert Moses and community activist Jane Jacobs. The words of biblical Moses himself help us understand the importance of public space. Spoiler alert: community activists win, and Washington Square Park is saved!
Boxcutter Collective: “Witches, Women and Witchcraft: The (Mostly) True Cranky of a Cranky Old Hag.” In our latest work of mischief, Boxcutter Collective brings you a brief history of the medieval witch hunts, as told by…witches! With their reproductive healthcare skills, and a team of singing bullfrogs, is it possible that witches are just what we need to defeat the imperialist capitalist patriarchy?
Emmanuel Elpenord: “The Choose Your Own Adventures of Turtle Boy”
Back by popular demand–and also guided by it–the shy yet rowdy Turtle Boy leads you through an action movie of your own making. TMNT meets John Wick.
Schweda: “When the Circus Comes to Town” is an object theater piece about legacy and liberation, set to a song about fathers and sons. The music is a cover of Harry Nilsson’s 1941, with vocals by Schweda and guitar by Adam Bishop.
And!! Ray The Bimbo Clown
