3/9/23 – Saint Joan

Live from James Chapel Presents: SAINT JOAN

Free Show! Thursday March 9th  7PM – 8PM

James Chapel | 3041 Broadway | New York, NY 10027

Live from James Chapel presents a new collaborative work by songwriter Ali Dineen &  Boxcutter Collective. Together they will present a concert and pageant inspired by the story of Joan of Arc.

The piece features an excerpt from The Passion of Joan of Arc, the 1928 French silent historical film based on the actual record of the trial of Joan of Arc , directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer, starring Renée Jeanne Falconetti as Joan, accompanied by a live score.

The live performance reimagines and reclaims the form of a Catholic mass,  with readings, puppetry, and original music. It will draw upon the work of scholars such as Sylvia Federici and Leslie Feinberg, as well as Ali’s own history and relationship to Joan. This unorthodox mass will explore themes of gender, prophecy, madness and faith.

This is a free event, no tickets required!

We request that the audience mask in the show.
