7/8/24 – 7/21/24 – Georgetown Festival, Penang Malaysia

The arts cannot exist without community. It is the ideas, thoughts and stories of people that drive artistic creation and cultivation. The Giant Puppet Community Project, aligned with the George Town Festival 2024, is a dynamic 4-month initiative in Malaysia dedicated to uniting diverse communities through the immersive world of art.

Central to this transformative programme is a mentor-mentee structure to impart essential skills, fostering a sustainable ripple effect in nationwide self-expression. At its essence, the programme showcases three unique giant puppets, each narrating local stories, set to parade through communities and shine during the George Town Festival, championing unity in diversity.

As the colossal figures traverse the winding city streets, they beckon you to witness the living histories of these communities.

Open workshops to create these gigantic puppets are happening in both communities: *Everyone is welcome to join in!
